Digitisation in orthodontics and aligner technology – a brief history of the last 25 years
The relatively young 21st century has already seen a paradigm shift in orthodontics. Much has changed… from diagnostic capabilities to treatment planning, CAD-CAM manufacturing and remote monitoring of treatments. These have opened up new horizons in therapies for doctors and better meet the needs of patients today. This is the blessing that digitalisation has brought.. The industry has naturally responded to these changes. In fact, it has partly generated them ! It has created a wealth of opportunities in which it is difficult to know what is useful and what is self-serving. This is the curse of digitalisation. It is therefore incumbent on both sides – industry and doctors – to filter out from the proliferation of options those that are genuinely useful to patients and doctors.
The aim of my presentation is to briefly describe these opportunities – the blessings and the curses.
Dr. Judit Borbély
Digital workflows with predictable aesthetic results
What is digital dentistry today? When a scanner takes digital impressions in a dental practice, when a CAD/CAM technology is used in a laboratory to etch a “zircon” frame, we are talking about digital dentistry, but digital dentistry is a much more complex change in the way we think about dentistry. Digital workflows, CAD/CAM technology, milling, printing and advanced CAD/CAM materials offer possibilities that are completely transforming the way we traditionally do prosthodontics and with new materials, we have to think in new ways, new solutions, but at the same time we are facing new challenges every day.
The high quality and outstanding aesthetics of hand-made restorations are only available to a few, while modern digital technology promises repeatable, consistent and predictable results for all.
This presentation will focus on how we can make the most of the opportunities offered by digital technology, advanced materials, smile design, digital wax-ups, motivational and functional mock-ups, intraoral scanning steps and the reliability of copy-paste dentistry in everyday practice.
Dr. Dániel Palkovics
3D technologies for periodontal and dento-alveolar surgery rehabilitation
With the development of digital three-dimensional technologies, it is becoming increasingly possible to design surgical interventions in more and more areas of healthcare with precision virtualization. Three-dimensional anatomical models and various surgical templates are becoming increasingly popular in the design of various periodontal and oral surgery procedures and design and implementation. Accurate 3D design and custom-made intraoperative aids make the outcome of even the most complex surgical procedures more predictable more predictable.
The virtual planning of oral and periodontal surgery requires the generation of a “virtual patient” model with sufficient detail, which can be achieved by 3D reconstruction of CBCT images and spatial alignment of intraoral scans. In this way, hard tissues, soft tissues and their relationship to each other can be realistically mapped.
The aim of this presentation is to demonstrate the use of “virtual patient” models and virtual planning the advantages of virtual models and virtual dentistry in various periodontal surgical, spinal preparation, spinal augmentation and implant surgery.
Dr. Ákos Mikolicz
Chairside CAD/CAM restorations in everyday practice
Modern chairside CAD/CAM systems allow us to create high quality aesthetic restorations for our patients in a single session, whether it be inlays, crowns or small bridges. This has many advantages, such as the fact that the restoration can be completed in up to 1.5 hours, from preparation to digital impression, design, milling and bonding.
The presentation will demonstrate the use of CAD/CAM systems that are easy to learn for all practicing dentists and will give practical tips for using them as efficiently as possible.
Dr. Zsolt Nagy
Digitally guided aesthetic rehabilitations
In order to achieve both aesthetic and functional goals, a precise design of the between the dental team and the dental technician. This is where the ever-expanding knowledge and application of increasingly digital technologies. The presentation will use case studies to illustrate the workflows used in our practice to perform aesthetic rehabilitations.
Dr. Filipa de Almeida
Spark Discovery
In this presentation, the attendees will be able to understand the state of art of Spark Clear Aligner System, by understanding it’s development through time and current features and tools to treat a complete span of malocclusions. Also, the importance of AI and communication in the planning and monitoring of Spark Treatments will be a focus, with clear tips and tricks to increase the overall predictability of the cases. Mentioning also the orthodontic protocols to be used to treat several malocclusions, by using Spark tools and features will be a key part of this presentation, to allow orthodontists to plan seamlessly their cases according to their clinical preferences.
Dr. Daniel C. Neves
Digital Orthodontic Ecosystem – A complete solution with mutually beneficial results
Technology is shaping the future with essential information and innovative ideas. The orthodontic field, with hardware, software and humans combined, is rapidly changing, probably faster than at any time in its history. If you believe that people are the most valuable asset to your business, then you have to communicate, plan, and be consistent. The presentation will focus on modern digital workflows with clear aligners and interdisciplinary approaches and the use of intelligent scan technology designed for improved hygiene, next-level treatment monitoring and enhanced predictability.
